Over the years I have used many open source products and have found some to be really excellent. This section is dedicated to those that I would recommend. To all open source developers out there ... thank you!

AxCrypt
Excellent means of encrypting files for distribution with password or keys. |
|
Linux - Ubuntu
Obviously there are many Linux varients out there and a lot of them are very good. I tend to prefer Ubuntu these days though - they keep things simple and don't overload you with x email clients, y dev environments, etc; this currently suits me. |
|
WinDirStat
This nifty tool will give a graphical representation of windows directories and files, showing which eat the most disk space. Very easy to use. |
|
Open Office
Full MS Office compatible office suite/ Since version 2 it does an excellent job of word processing, speadsheet manipulation, presentation development, etc, for a really solid price tag - zero :-) |
|
MediaCoder
A tool for converting between different media formats. I haven't used this one yet, but it is next on my list of tools to try when the need arises ... |
|
Thunderbird
I love this email client for its ease of use and elegance. It does what it says on the tin and supports multiple email accounts effortlessly. I have a feeling Mozilla doesn't want to continue with it for much longer, which is a real shame. |
|
Firefox
Dave says: I consider this to be the best web browser there is!
They say: The award-winning Web browser is now even faster, more secure, and fully customizable to suit your online life. |
|
True Crypt
Dave says:
An excellent encryption system for privacy on your computer.
Their site says:
TrueCrypt is a software system for establishing and maintaining an on-the-fly-encrypted volume (data storage device). |
